Rick,
Fascinating. Bet it will stir up conversation. Why not put your suggestion on the Starbucks site too?

I own a wedding video business, and as a sign of loyalty and personal communication, I require all deals with me to be made in person at a coffee shop. The only place I go for this is Starbucks for the calm and professional atmosphere.

Every time I arrange these in-person meetings, my clients say "Hold on, I'm going to grab a coffee real quick." This is what every client has said to me when we first meet up. Observing this situation, you will notice that I bring in 2 customers for Starbucks to profit from. And from Starbucks, I receive nothing in return. Is it the table and chair they are providing for me? Not necessarily; I can arrange to meet at any restaurant, any other coffee shop, library, bus stop, grocery store deli, airport, park, hiking trail, or my own home.

Of course these are ridiculous alternatives, nonetheless they are alternatives to cut off Starbucks' profits from me. I want to continue meeting with my clients at Starbucks, but I expect a little more in return than simply a table and chair.

So here is my suggestion: I am sure I am not the only person generating customers for Starbucks, so I recommend that Starbucks gives business owners like myself something in return. I believe either:

Free Internet Access, or
Discounted Beverages,

would work best, with proof that you are there for a business meeting, and that you can provide your valid business liscense.

Readers, please email me what you think of this idea
